When: Wednesday & Thursday, August 9-10, 2023
Where: The Westin Playa La Bonita Hotel, Panama City, Panama
Co-Chairs

Likoebe Maruping, Georgia State University, lmaruping@gsu.edu
The Doctoral Consortium (Early Stage) is to help those students who have started their Ph.D. programs and have not yet completed their comprehensive examination. The consortium has three primary objectives:
- Provide students opportunities to network with peers and faculty
- Help students to strategize about their research, teaching, and career plans
- Prepare students for the job market
The program includes faculty panels on managing the dissertation and academic success, teaching responsibilities and competencies, and career planning. In breakout sessions after each panel, small groups of students will discuss the panel topic with their faculty mentors and fellow students. The intent is for students to apply the panel topic to their personal and professional goals, with input from faculty mentors and peers.

- Financial assistance may be available towards subsidizing the registration fee for qualified students – details to follow
- At this time, a visa is not needed for international students in the USA (as well as several other countries, including Australia, the Republic of Korea, Japan, the UK, Northern Ireland, Singapore, and EU nations) IF a multiple entry visa is stamped on their passport (which is usually the case for F1 visas). In cases where a visa is required, it is expected to take less than 30 days for visa processing. Complete visa requirements can be found at: https://www.embassyofpanama.org/visas-1
Application Criteria
Preference for attendance will be given to students who (a) have not yet taken their comprehensive/qualifying exam by the date of the consortium, or are not yet close to defending their dissertation proposal, and (b) those who have not previously participated in the AMCIS DC. Students later in their programs may want to consider applying to the late-stage Doctoral Consortium. Multiple students may apply from the same school. Doctoral students from across the globe can apply; priority will be given to students studying at universities in the AIS Americas Region 1.
