AMCIS 2023 Doctoral Consortium – Late Stage Students

Navigating a Successful Academic Career: Job Market and Beyond

When: Wednesday & Thursday, August 9-10, 2023

Where: The Westin Playa La Bonita Hotel, Panama City, Panama

Co-Chairs

Elena Karahanna, University of Georgia, ekarah@uga.edu

Atreyi Kankanhalli, National University of Singapore, atreyi@comp.nus.edu.sg

The Doctoral Consortium (Late Stage) is to help those students who have completed their coursework and comprehensive examination, are working on their dissertation, and anticipate entering the job market in the next year or two to develop an effective career plan based on their personal and professional goals. The consortium has three primary objectives:

  1. Provide networking opportunities for students with peers and faculty
  2. Help students strategize about their research, teaching, and career plans
  3. Prepare students for the job market

The program includes faculty panels on managing the dissertation and research program, teaching responsibilities and competencies, and career planning. In breakout sessions after each panel, small groups of students will discuss the panel topic with their faculty mentors and fellow students. The intent is for students to apply the panel topic to their personal and professional goals, with input from faculty mentors and peers. Furthermore, we will have breakout sessions where faculty mentors provide students with feedback on their dissertation research.

  • At this time, a visa is not needed for international students in the USA (as well as several other countries, including Australia, the Republic of Korea, Japan, the UK, Northern Ireland, Singapore, and EU nations) IF a multiple entry visa is stamped on their passport (which is usually the case for F1 visas). In cases where a visa is required, it is expected to take less than 30 days for visa processing. Complete visa requirements can be found at: https://www.embassyofpanama.org/visas-1
